The meeting, which simulates a regular session of the UN, took place on April 18th, 19th, and 20th. Our student participated as a delegate of Finland, debating topics such as the global abolition of Tiktok and the economic and commercial perspectives of the Arctic

The Barcelona International Model United Nations of Esade is a three-day MUN conference that provides an exceptional opportunity for young people to immerse themselves in the world of international relations. Participants will see, from the perspective of United Nations delegates, how the international community addresses global crises.

At BIMUN Esade, students are required to provide plausible solutions to the complex real-world problems facing politicians today, and participation and cooperation are essential for this. In the 2024 call, our student Alejandro Pinto participated as a delegate of Finland, representing Xaloc. Additionally, he received an Honorable Mention for his outstanding effort.

When interviewed, he shared his experience: «I was selected for the Economic and Social Council, where we debated two topics: first, the discussion on the possible global abolition of TikTok, in light of governments' abuse of personal information, which has generated global concern. TikTok has transcended its function as a simple entertainment application to become a key element of global digital culture. However, its growing popularity has raised concerns about user data security and privacy.

»Additionally, we debated the economic and commercial perspectives of the Arctic. But not only that, we also faced moments of crisis where we had to demonstrate our knowledge and prior research we had conducted, and negotiate with other delegations to have our clauses within resolutions approved. In these cases, we had to respond to unforeseen situations, such as, for example, a fictional scenario of a massive data leak from the TikTok company.»

Through debate sessions over three days, participants develop their communication, leadership, and analytical skills while seeking to solve the problem at hand. Additionally, delegates will be presented with an unforeseen crisis situation, forcing them to be imaginative and devise a quick solution.

Alejandro's presence at this model UN conference attests to how important it is for Xaloc that students encounter and become familiar with the global world in which we must put forth our best efforts to solve the problems we face.

Congratulations for your great work, Alejandro!
