On Sunday, November 17, 2024, the Family Hiking Group (GEF) of Xaloc – Pineda – Avantis held its first excursion of the 24-25 season with a walk through the natural spaces of the Llobregat Delta. The activity, initially scheduled for October, had to be postponed due to adverse weather forecasts. Fortunately, the good weather accompanied this outing, which combined nature, culture, and togetherness.
The day began shortly before 11 a.m. at Parc Nou in El Prat de Llobregat, where a total of 69 participants gathered, including children, mothers, and fathers. The route, just over 12 kilometers long and with virtually no elevation gain, followed wide paths and trails that allowed some families to join with strollers. Along the way, hikers visited several iconic spots in the Delta, such as the Ricarda Farm, the Cal Lluquer Observation Tower, the Bunyola Observation Tower, and the Semaphore Observation Deck. One of the highlights of the day was the stop at the Carabiners Barracks, where participants paused for lunch in a calm and welcoming natural setting.
Another special moment of the route was the visit to the Airport Lookout, where families could watch air traffic up close, an especially exciting spectacle for the youngest attendees. The walk ended back at Parc Nou, where children took advantage of the playground facilities to have fun and share playful moments.
This first organizational and participation success marks a great start to the GEF activity calendar, promoting connection with nature and quality family time. The next excursion is scheduled for Sunday, December 1, 2024, with a walk through the La Mussara area in Baix Camp, promising a unique experience and new opportunities to explore the region.
