Literary Café: A Space for Dialogue and Reading

24/10/2024

A monthly activity that promotes reading, intergenerational dialogue, and critical reflection, providing a space to share ideas and grow together within the framework of our educational project, allowing participants to explore diverse topics, enrich their perspectives, and establish meaningful connections with other community members

This Tuesday, October 22, we celebrated a new edition of the Literary Coffees, a monthly activity that has become a reference point within our educational project. These coffees, held on a Tuesday of each month in the school library, are an opportunity to foster reading, dialogue, and critical reflectionvalues we consider essential in the comprehensive education of our students and the entire educational community.

In this last session, we discussed the novel "The Granddaughter of Mr. Linh" by Philippe Claudel, an emotionally rich work that addresses deep themes such as exile, loneliness, and the human need for connection. Participants shared their impressions of the plot, highlighting the affectionate relationship between Mr. Linh and his granddaughter, and debated the unexpected twist at the end, which sparked a rich discussion among attendees.

The aim of the Literary Coffees is not only to enjoy reading but also to create a space where families, teachers, and other community members can express themselves freely and share their ideas. This initiative fully aligns with our educational mission, which seeks to strengthen the love for literature and encourage the ability to think critically and reflectively. At Xaloc, we firmly believe that reading is a fundamental tool for the personal and academic development of our students, as it not only broadens their knowledge but also opens their minds to different realities, cultures, and perspectives.

Moreover, the Literary Cafés provide a space for intergenerational dialogue, where participants can learn from one another and enrich themselves with diverse viewpoints. Each session becomes an opportunity to practice active listening and respect for othersopinionsvalues we also promote in our pedagogical project.

Soon, we will announce the date and the selected book for the next Literary Café session in November. We encourage the entire community to participate, as it is an excellent way to discover new works, reflect on current topics, and, above all, enjoy the company and conversation around books.
