“The Super-Grandparents Read at Xaloc”: A Magical Experience of Intergenerational Reading

10/01/2025

The grandparents of Primary Cycle 1 are the protagonists of a new Library initiative to promote reading.

The Library has launched a unique and heartwarming activity: The Super-Grandparents Read at Xaloc”, an initiative that connects generations through reading. This program invites the grandparents of Primary Cycle 1 students to share a special time with their grandchildren and their class by reading a story they choose themselves and proposing a small activity to do together.

During the sessions, grandparents become storytellers and transmitters of values, offering children an enriching and deeply personal experience. The latest session, held last month, featured Juan, Joan’s grandfather, a 2nd-grade student. Juan captivated the class with the classic Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes' masterpiece. In addition to narrating the adventures of the Knight of the Sorrowful Countenance, he shared reflections on the importance of dreaming and being brave, leaving a lasting impression on the little ones.

Maria Rodríguez, the Library coordinator, highlighted the success of the initiative: The children eagerly look forward to these sessions, and the grandparents enjoy spending this time with them. It’s an activity that creates bonds and magical moments they’ll always remember.”

At Xaloc, we encourage more grandparents to join this initiative. To participate, simply contact Maria via email at maria.rodriguez@xaloc.org. Together, we will continue fostering a love for reading and creating unforgettable moments for the youngest students.
