We Consolidate the MYP in Secondary with the MYP 5 Personal Project

12/11/2024

This year marks a milestone in the academic development of our students, as they complete the Middle Years Programme (MYP) with our first graduating class of MYP 5. Students are experiencing the Personal Project—a key opportunity to explore their interests and develop essential skills for their future.

The Personal Project offers students the chance to delve into topics of their choice, setting their own goals and designing criteria for success to conduct their research. Notable projects this year include the creation of an online store, the design of a smart home, a scaled model of the school, and even a Tesla coil, reflecting the diversity of interests and talents among our students.

Alberto Quesada, MYP coordinator, explains the significance of this new stage: Our students need to be aware that they will increasingly take center stage, and the world of tomorrow will be as they choose to design it. For this reason, in the final year of the MYP, they have a curricular experience in which they test their motivation, their ability to act, and their capacity for lifelong learning”. The project not only drives academic development but also personal growth, as students take an active role in their education, paving the way toward the Diploma Programme and their future professional lives.

The implementation of the full MYP cycle has also allowed our students to choose an academic focus based on their interests and abilities, shaping their educational future with options spanning the humanities, sciences, social studies, and technical areas. Additionally, through the Service as Action initiative, MYP students engage in impactful social projects, participating in solidarity and awareness-raising activities that contribute to the well-being of the community.

This first year with MYP 5 and the Personal Project solidifies our commitment to a comprehensive, international education in which students take charge of their learning and contribute to creating a better world.
