Why is Xaloc launching the "Screen-Free School" Campaign?

In response to the concerns of parents, teachers, and society at large regarding the relationship between children and teenagers with their phones, we are promoting a screen-free space at school

Currently, parents wonder at what age they should give their children a phone. The short answer is whenever parents want. However, the long answer has many nuances, as with the increasing information we receive (and the events we witness), we begin to question the appropriate age. Many parents believe the right time is when their children gain a certain level of independence and need to get in touch with them; others succumb to social pressure when their classmates already have one.

Nevertheless, we should give a phone to our children when they are ready to manage it and have the will to use it responsibly. From our perspective, it's good to delay the delivery of a mobile phone as much as possible, and we recommend waiting until the age of 16.

That's why the school has initiated a campaign to help families and students make reasonable use of the phone. To implement these measures, we rely on teaching experience and the testimony of families, as excessive screen time hinders concentration and social interaction. Furthermore, both public health opinions and sector experts assert that screens affect cognitive and emotional development. As you know, there is an increasing number of news articles about the negative impact of screens on babies, children, and young people. Catherine L’Ecuyer, a pioneer in questioning the use of phones among children and adolescents, is clear: "while a child is in front of a screen, they are missing out on many other things they need for their proper development."

Help us raise awareness among all students with your example!
