To detect the strengths of the center to be maintained and strengthened, and the weaknesses to improve, it is necessary to make a good diagnosis.
A diagnosis must be complete, but the EDC document only needs to include a summary, especially in those areas where action is needed.
It should be borne in mind that the diagnosis must allow determining the degree of achievement of digital skills in reference to the three axes of the PEDC: students, teachers and center.
The resource with which we have carried out the diagnosis of the center in digital issues has been with the free Selfie tool, which is customizable and very easy to use, created by the European Commission, to help schools to diagnose their degree of implementation of digital technologies. The tool allows you to create a survey for students, teachers and management team in a simple way.
From a model, the center can adapt some parameters. With all the answers, the tool generates a very visual and interactive report that can be very useful to define objectives, formulate an action plan and set priorities. The results obtained determine:
STRENGTHS
• Infrastructure and Equipment: This area focuses on the existence of an adequate, reliable and secure infrastructure (e.g. equipment, software, information resources, internet connection, technical assistance or physical space). These elements can enable and facilitate the use of innovative teaching, learning and assessment practices.
• Leadership: This area focuses on the role played by leadership in the integration of digital technologies at school level and their effective use for the main tasks of the school, that is, teaching and learning.
• Pedagogy - implementation in the classroom: This area relates to the implementation in the classroom of digital technologies for learning, through the updating and innovation of teaching and learning practices
• Pedagogy - supports and resources: This area relates to preparing for the use of digital technologies for learning by updating and innovating teaching and learning practices.
POINTS TO IMPROVE
• Have a defined Digital Strategy.
• Training in digital teaching competence (continuous training)
• Digital reception and support for families.
• Modify NOFCs to include EDC.
